Our Programs

Field to Market’s programs offer America’s farming, food and agriculture industries essential tools for unlocking shared value for all stakeholders.

Field to Market engages in broad communication and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure a coordinated, outcomes-based approach to sustainable agriculture that is grounded in science.

The Alliance provides a common framework for sustainability measurement that farmers and the supply chain can use to better understand and assess performance at the field, local, state and national levels.

Our programs provides an unparalleled platform that helps the food and agricultural supply chain benchmark sustainability performance, catalyze continuous improvement and enable brands and retailers to characterize the sustainability of key sourcing regions as well as measure and report out on progress against environmental goals.

Benchmarking Sustainability Performance

Enabling farmers and the supply chain to measure continuous improvement—at both the national and field level—is one of the hallmarks of our program. Our science-based tools and resources provide benchmarks at the local, state and national level to assess the sustainability performance of commodity crops.

Analyzing National Sustainability Trends

To inform continuous improvements in agricultural production and guide the efforts of our members, Field to Market continues to analyze national-scale trends in environmental and socioeconomic progress for commodity crops over time.

This trends analysis, compiled in our National Indicators Report, provides important context, enables informed discussions of priorities for more localized efforts, and creates a baseline against which to monitor and measure future change.

Measuring Field Level Sustainability Performance

Through a multi-stakeholder approach, we have developed benchmarks and metrics to help corn, cotton, potato, rice, soybean and wheat farmers assess field level performance on eight sustainability indicators.

The Fieldprint® Platform enables farmers and the supply chain to document sustainability outcomes and tell their sustainability story to both retailers and consumers, using research and science-based data.

Catalyzing Continuous Improvement

Building upon Field to Market’s foundation of measuring the environmental performance at the field and landscape level, we seek to catalyze continuous improvement by helping farmers identify opportunities to improve productivity, profitability and environmental outcomes.

By partnering with existing continuous improvement tools, technologies, programs and initiatives including local crop advisors, agronomic experts, NGO-led initiatives and USDA resources—we seek to expand our efforts from measuring performance over time to working with a range of partners to help farmers improve biodiversity, responsible land use, soil conservation, soil carbon and water quality and water use efficiency while reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.

Driving Sustainable Agriculture Forward

Launched in 2019, our Continuous Improvement Accelerator harnesses the power of collaboration across the agricultural value chain to implement locally-led conservation solutions and deliver sustainable outcomes through member-led continuous improvement projects.

With over 60 active projects in the Continuous Improvement Accelerator, Field to Market’s public-facing Project Directory showcases the best of sustainable agriculture leadership from across the value chain. The Directory enables Field to Market members to demonstrate their project goals, engagement and progress to internal and external shareholders, strengthening public confidence in the food and agriculture system.

Scaling Impact Through Partnerships

Field to Market brings nearly 140 diverse stakeholders across the food and agriculture value chain together to scale sustainable agriculture. Our Partnership Exchange offers member organizations with common interests a digital space to connect and leverage their combined scale and influence to accelerate continuous improvement.

Helping drive pre-competitive collaboration, the Exchange empowers members to share knowledge, build relationships, address shared challenges and find concrete solutions to accelerate continuous improvement in environmental outcomes.

Enabling Sustainability Claims

Collaboration and transparency within the supply chain is key to answering consumer questions on where and how their food, fiber and fuel are produced.

Field to Market is working to develop protocols and processes that aggregate field-level data while protecting individual farmers’ data privacy, enabling downstream companies to characterize the sustainability of their sourcing regions and make supply chain sustainability claims.

By aggregating grower data in a standardized and anonymized fashion, Field to Market will enable Participation, Measurement and Impact claims for supply chain members.

Participation Claims

Communicates participation in the Alliance, expressing support for and engagement in building solutions and advancing continuous improvement in the sustainability of commodity crop production.

Measurement Claims

Measures progress in engaging growers and acreage in measuring continuous improvement in years 1-4 of Fieldprint Project. Documents intent to contribute sustained improvements or reductions against Field to Market’s outcomes-based metrics and demonstrates a one-year snapshot of aggregate environmental outcomes from Fieldprint Project.

Impact Claims

Quantifies actual sustained improvements or reductions against Field to Market’s outcomes-based metrics, demonstrating an improved trend line and assessing performance against a Fieldprint Project’s five-year benchmark.

Field to Market’s membership is currently developing associated verification processes for these claims to meet international standards for transparency, stakeholder engagement and demonstrated impact.
