Field to Market President and Members Join White House Convened Roundtable on Agricultural Sustainability

June 10, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC, JUNE 10, 2015 – Rod Snyder, President of Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture, together with 16 Field to Market member organizations participated in a roundtable on solutions for sustainable agriculture convened by the White House today. This roundtable provided an opportunity for Field to Market members to share their experiences in improving agricultural sustainability and discuss how the federal government and private sector can foster additional action across the agricultural supply chain.

Roundtable participants included Cargill; The Coca-Cola Company; Environmental Defense Fund; The Fertilizer Institute; General Mills; Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy; Kellogg Company; Monsanto; The Nature Conservancy; PepsiCo; National Corn Growers Association; Syngenta; Unilever; United Soybean Board; Walmart; and World Wildlife Fund.

The administration recognized Field to Market’s leadership in helping promote climate-smart agriculture. In April, the USDA, standing with private sector partners, including Field to Market, established 10 building blocks to reduce emissions, increase carbon storage, and support climate resilience.

To support the USDA and administration’s national climate strategy, Field to Market pledged to develop the next generation of farm level sustainability metrics to help growers measure and deliver sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

Through the development of these farm level sustainability metrics, Field to Market and its members will partner with growers at the field level to track environmental impacts, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and help deliver sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions from U.S. cropland per unit of output.

To achieve these outcomes, Field to Market’s members will continue scaling their supply chain engagement with a goal of enrolling 50 million acres of U.S. commodity crop production in the Field to Market Supply Chain Sustainability Program by 2020.

To drive scale, Field to Market and The Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy announced a partnership today that seeks to harmonize on-farm metrics to assess sustainability of dairy feed and drive greater collaboration between the two organizations.
