UPDATE: Proposed Revisions to Energy Use and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Metrics Approved

February 26, 2018

Following the public comment period, the Field to Market Board of Directors considered all input and unanimously voted to approve the proposed revisions to the Energy Use Metric. The revision includes updates to key data resources used in the metric calculation and makes specific structural adjustments to allow users to more precisely account for the energy used in their operations.

The Board also approved certain revisions to the rice methane emissions component of the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Metric. The revision will provide growers with additional feedback on the sources of methane emissions as well as specific management practices that can be used for mitigation. This will help rice growers connect with their customers on key greenhouse gas emissions reductions opportunities. The Board delayed approval of updated methane emissions factors for ratoon rice until new data is available later this spring.

Over the next few months, Field to Market’s Metrics Committee will oversee the implementation of these Energy and Greenhouse Gas revisions in the next version of the Fieldprint® Platform.
