Field to Market Awarded Walton Family Foundation Grant to Improve the Environmental Performance of Row Crop Agriculture

June 20, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture™ has been awarded a two-year grant, totaling $800,000, by the Walton Family Foundation to improve the environmental performance of row crop agriculture. Goals for the grant include:

  • Improving usability, features and functionality of the Fieldprint Platform™ and Sustainability Metrics to increase engagement by farmers;
  • Incorporating Racial Justice, Equity, and Inclusion as a key priority in Field to Market’s program;
  • Increasing growers’ access to financial incentives by identifying and piloting emerging approaches through an Innovative Finance Workgroup; and
  • Improving and increasing Scope 3 reporting from Continuous Improvement Projects for greenhouse gas emissions and other metric outcomes.

This new award builds upon prior support from the Walton Family Foundation for enhancing Field to Market’s sustainability programs and resources. Over the past several years, the Walton Family Foundation has enabled the development of various science-based tools within the Fieldprint Platform.

“Field to Market is grateful for the Walton Family Foundation’s continuous support of our mission, vision, and goals,” says Field to Market President Scott Herndon. “We look forward to improving the environmental performance of row crop agriculture through improvements to Field to Market’s programs and offerings.”

“Field to Market is working right now to grow food in ways that are better for nature and for people. This work is good for clean water and healthy soil.  Equally important, it will support racial justice, equity and inclusion for the growers,” says Amy Saltzman, Mississippi River Initiative Lead at the Walton Family Foundation. “Together, we are working for solutions so nature and people can thrive together.”
