Statement on Tom Vilsack’s selection as the next Secretary of Agriculture

Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture president Rod Snyder released the following statement in response to Tom Vilsack’s selection as the next Secretary of Agriculture:  

“We congratulate Tom Vilsack on his selection as President-elect Biden’s Secretary of Agriculture. Vilsack brings unparalleled leadership experience to the role, which will be necessary to address the immense challenges currently facing the food and agriculture system in the United States. Field to Market worked collaboratively with Secretary Vilsack during his previous tenure at USDA, and we look forward to a continued strong partnership to support and advance supply chain sustainability efforts across the country.

The agriculture sector is experiencing increased urgency on issues such as climate change, racial justice, and a prolonged downturn in the farm economy. From strengthening climate mitigation and adaptation strategies, to advancing racial equity and inclusion within our industry, to ensuring long term profitability for farmers, the public and private sectors must work together to create solutions that deliver a more sustainable food and agriculture system.
