Field to Market Welcomes Newly Elected Board Members

January 06, 2015

Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture is pleased to announce the election of four directors to the Field to Market Board of Directors: Bob Young, American Farm Bureau Federation; David Primozich, The Freshwater Trust; Kari Niedfeldt-Thomas, The Mosaic Company; and Stefani Millie Grant, Unilever.

Young was re-elected, while Primozich, Niedfeldt-Thomas and Millie Grant are serving their first terms on the Field to Market board, which is comprised of three elected members from each of the agribusiness; conservation; food, beverage and retail; and grower sectors. Each board member serves for a term of three years.

“Field to Market is very fortunate to have individuals of this caliber on our Board of Directors,” said Rod Snyder, president of Field to Market. “Our Board members bring a depth of expertise and knowledge of the industry to guide our organization’s efforts and represent the voices of our diverse membership. Together they steer our organization as we fulfill our mission to create opportunities for continuous improvement in productivity, environmental quality and human well-being across the agricultural supply chain.”

A longtime director and member of the Alliance, Young has helped shepherd the organization through its transition into an independent non-profit organization in 2013 and the development of Field to Market’s Supply Chain Sustainability Program launched in June 2014.

“Field to Market promotes a voluntary, collaborative approach to sustainability that is expressly science-based, technology neutral and focused on outcomes that are within a grower’s control,” said Young, Chief Economist & Deputy Executive Director, Public Policy, American Farm Bureau Federation. “That’s why the Farm Bureau has been a member since the Alliance’s inception, and why I continue to serve on the Board of Directors. Field to Market remains a strong advocate for farmers committed to stewarding the land, and I am honored to represent their voice.”

As The Freshwater Trust’s senior ecosystem services director, Primozich understands the importance of working together to pursue solutions that deliver environmental, social and economic benefits.

“I am very honored to be chosen for the board of an organization that has done so much to advance the sustainability of commodity crop production. I look forward to working with farmers and businesses to tackle important environmental issues like solving regional water quality problems by working with farmers to reduce sediment, phosphorus, nitrogen, and pesticide loads from U.S. cropland,” said Primozich.

Millie Grant manages state government relations and external affairs for Unilever in the United States.

“As an Iowa native with roots on the farm, I look forward to helping Field to Market advance and promote sustainable agriculture through its supply chain sustainability program,” said Millie Grant. “Field to Market is uniquely positioned to provide companies like Unilever with a common framework for measuring the sustainability of commodity crops and delivering sustainable outcomes by convening partners to work together to drive continuous improvement at the farm and landscape level.”

Managing The Mosaic Company’s sustainable agriculture partnerships, Niedfeldt-Thomas is a strong advocate of efforts to unite the supply chain behind a common vision of championing solutions for tomorrow’s safe, accessible, and nutritious food, fiber and fuel in thriving ecosystems.

“The depth and breadth of organizations supporting Field to Market and its mission is impressive,” said Niedfeldt-Thomas. “It is only through unparalleled collaboration and the pre-competitive approach Field to Market offers that the agriculture industry can address the collective environmental challenges we face and responsibly manage our planet’s natural resources. I am honored to serve on the Board and to help make this vision a reality.”

With the addition of the newly elected Board members, Field to Market extends its gratitude to the directors who have completed their term of office: Keith Newhouse, Land O’Lakes, Inc., Larry Clemens and Sean McMahon, The Nature Conservancy; and Mark Murphy, Cargill.
