Field to Market Seeks Data & Technology Program Manager

To apply Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture seeks a Data & Technology Program Manager to oversee the development and maintenance of the organization’s technology platform and agricultural data collection and management systems.

Field to Market is a 501(c)(3) organization that brings together a diverse alliance of grower groups; agribusiness companies; food, beverage, restaurant and retail companies; conservation groups; universities and public sector partners to focus on promoting, defining and measuring the sustainability of row crops for food, fiber and fuel production.

Position Overview

The Data & Technology Program Manager is responsible for contract management for development and maintenance of the Fieldprint® Platform, a tool used by growers and the supply chain to collect farm level data, benchmark environmental performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and enable sustainability claims.

The position will also oversee the integration of the Fieldprint Platform into other proprietary farm management tools and software (via API) for purposes of scaling Field to Market’s data collection program. This individual will also work with Field to Market member organizations to establish policies and procedures for collecting, storing, managing, aggregating and reporting field level data. The individual will anticipate, shape, and articulate demand for IT services ensuring integration of projects into the overall plan, balancing the needs of various organizations, availability of resources and funding.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in ag data and information technology systems, project management, and at least a working knowledge of agronomy and agricultural sustainability. In addition, the individual must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills; an ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; and a desire and enthusiasm for continuous learning and professional development.

The position reports to the president of Field to Market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the Fieldprint Platform through contracted vendors and incorporating feedback from Field to Market members and growers.
  • Oversee the implementation of the Fieldprint Platform’s application program interface (API) for integrating with other proprietary farm management tools and software, including development of third party license agreements.
  • Provide primary staff support and facilitation for Field to Market’s Technology Workgroup, including achieving consensus on policies and procedures related to the collection, storage, management, aggregation and reporting of field level data.
  • Oversee development and implementation of standard operating procedures for performance testing for the Fieldprint Platform and quality assurance/quality control for all data sets.
  • Provide strategic guidance to the organization on trends and opportunities in the ag software industry.
  • Represent Field to Market by speaking at grower conferences and other agricultural supply chain events throughout the year.

Qualifications

  • Established Track Record: Minimum of 4-6 years of proven experience in software development, ag data management, or precision agriculture.
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in information technology (computer science, management information systems or related field).
  • Basic knowledge of agronomy, plant or soil science, or agricultural sustainability is required.
  • Experience leading increasingly complex projects including custom, package, Software as a Service (SaaS) and any combination of these is preferred.
  • Experience developing/managing REST API development for Web and/or mobile applications.
  • Experience with API integration of multiple applications across partners using API Gateways.
  • General knowledge of SOAP, REST and other API protocols and security protocols such as Open ID Connect and SAML.
  • Experience with deploying applications on the cloud or integrating with cloud applications.
  • Strong process analysis and systematic thinking skills and the ability to consistently deliver targeted business outcomes.
  • Experience with large scale projects and program implementation is preferred. Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize, establish and meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to coordinate multi-stakeholder teams and build successful interactions.
  • Successful experience in working with a membership-driven organization strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate and influence people across organizations in one-on-one, small team and large audience settings.
  • Must have strong command of the English language.
  • Moderate amount of travel is required for this position. At times travel may be expected on short notice. Travel and other work related assignments may include weekends.
  • Office location is Washington, DC.
