Field to Market Seeks Fall Communications Intern

Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture seeks a Communications Intern, who is full of creative ideas and eager to contribute on a large scale. The intern will gain visibility into the inner workings of Field to Market and the members we represent. He/she will be responsible for interacting and engaging with Field to Market staff, members and supporters to develop impactful stories to be shared with and distributed to target audiences via various communication channels.

At the end of this internship, the intern will have produced a portfolio of outstanding work focused on telling the stories of diverse advocates for sustainable agriculture and promoting Field to Market’s program and services to broaden the Alliance’s brand awareness. The intern will report to the Communications Director and will interact with other Field to Market staff, consultants, vendors and members as required. The fall internship is paid and will run from September-December 2016.

Responsibilities

  • Learn Field to Market’s program; adopt its mission; become an advocate for sustainable agriculture; and promote Field to Market’s program and services to broaden the Alliance’s brand awareness
  • Interact with Field to Market members, supporters and staff and write engaging, impactful, emotionally-resonant copy to be shared via press releases, media advisories, fact sheets, emails and other communications materials
  • Refine and develop distributions lists for influential media, including reporters, social media influencers, bloggers, columnists, etc.
  • Compile daily media clips and social media mentions and create monthly report of total media impressions
  • Develop a social media editorial calendar and create both tailored and evergreen posts to increase engagement and grow followers
  • Perform general administrative duties in support of assigned projects

The Ideal Candidate

  • Enrollment in a Master’s program or graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field of study and a minimum GPA of 3.0 (rising seniors performing at an exceptional level will also be considered)
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Passion for agricultural sustainability, the public relations industry, and its best practices
  • Strong understanding of different social media networks and tactical execution to attract the attention of media and media influencers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • A team player who is self-motivated, detail oriented and willing to “go the extra mile” for project completion
  • Willingness to adapt and remain flexible as projects and priorities change

Additional Details

  • The Communications Internship is designed for recent university graduates and graduate students. Rising seniors performing at an exceptional level will also be considered.
  • Field to Market pays a stipend to all interns. If you would like to receive credit in addition to or in lieu of the stipend, please consult with your department head or academic advisor.
  • Internships are available on a year-round basis. If you would like to be considered for future semesters, please indicate your preference in your cover letter.
  • We anticipate that interns will work full-time during their semester of employment at Field to Market. However, Field to Market is open to accepting candidates who would work less than full-time so they may take classes at a local university. This flexibility is intended to attract candidates from outside the DC-area who may want to take advantage of the many local learning opportunities available while interning at Field to Market. This arrangement also offers a flexible internship opportunity for students enrolled full-time at a DC-based institution.
